JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Virginia Tech women's tennis concluded its fall slate on Sunday at the UNF Fall Invite.
The Hokies' weekend was highlighted by freshman Laima Frosch's run to the singles Flight E finals. Frosch cruised through her first two matches on Friday and Saturday with wins over Kentucky's Maialen Morante (6-0, 6-1) and Indiana's Li Hsin Lin (6-2, 6-2). In the flight's championship match, Frosch fell in three sets to Indiana's Dunac.
Semra Aksu finished third in her flight – claiming two victories on the weekend. Her weekend started with a tough 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) win over Nebraska's Maria Taranova. After suffering a setback in the second round later that afternoon, she moved to the third-place match on Sunday against Charlote's Lucia Aranda, who retired before the deciding third set after the two players split the first two, 4-6, 6-4.
Sabina Richtrova followed a similar path after rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Anslee Long of North Florida before falling in the second round. On Sunday, Richtrova fell to UNF's Lyshko.
Frosch and Ozlem Uslu started the weekend strong in doubles, as well, with a 6-4 win over Kentucky's Stevens/Mills.
