CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Virginia Tech football spoke with the media following its dominant conference win over Boston College. Brent Pry elaborated on the team's production on offense and was joined by Ron Crook and Jayden McDonald.
Read below to see what they had to say.
Head Coach Brent Pry
On generating turnovers and starting fast:
"Yeah, I think the momentum obviously, and Dorian, great job undercutting the receiver and making a play on the ball. But also just, the ability to take the ball away against this group, stealing possessions against this group was important. When you have a couple of takeaways and you get to play on special teams, it's very helpful against a group. As we saw, they can drive the field and eat the clock up. So, it was important to start fast and get some points on the board to lead. Having the lead like that going into the half, made it awfully tough on them."
On the surprise onside kick recovery:
"I jumped on the horn with Chris, with Coach Marve, and said, 'Hey listen, we're going to bunt this man so get your group ready. There will be a sudden change situation.' You know, felt good about calling it. Again, we have to be aggressive. I think there's some signs over the last couple of weeks when we are, we seem to do a little better."
Offensive Line Coach Ron Crook
On starting drives with positive plays:
"Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. We put a big emphasis on first and second down success. Felt like last week we had way too many third and longs. So, that was important to us coming in. We felt like that was one of the keys to having success."
Linebacker Jayden McDonald
On playing with better technique on offense:
"I feel like that was a great achievement, especially coming from last week. Last week we didn't really do what we needed to do. So, we made a stamp to stop the run this week, especially with the way they pride themselves on running the ball. So, I feel like we did a great job and it was a great achievement for us to be able to hold them in that."
