BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football spoke with the local media for its weekly press conference on Tuesday. Ahead of Saturday's matchup with Louisville, Brent Pry elaborated on the team's performance against Syracuse, and Kyron Drones discussed his personal development.
Read below to see what they had to say.
Head Coach Brent Pry
On limiting third down conversions versus the Orange:
"So, I think it was complimentary. A lot of times, that's how it works. The sacks and the good coverage come hand in hand. I think that had a lot to do with it on third down and having a good plan. But coming into the game, that's one of their areas of strength. They've done a nice job on third down. That was something their offense, I think, had done a nice job with. It was one of the keys to success for us going into the week."
On scoring more touchdowns in the red zone:
"I think it starts with the mindset when you're in the red zone, you got to be hungry to score touchdowns. You got to smell the goal line, you really do. I think we got to have a good plan. We go back and look at what we're calling down there. How are people defending us? Where can we be better? You know from what we got going into the game plan in the red zone because, against a group like this, we're certainly going to need touchdowns over field goals."
Quarterback Kyron Drones
On his comfort level in the offense:
"Yeah, you can say night and day. I feel like I get pretty much comfortable each and every day out of practice and each and every week playing in every game. Just being more comfortable and having more confidence in myself and in the offense. Just leading the guys and going out there and trying to get wins."
On the offensive line's improvement in the run game:
"Yeah, I feel like the offensive line has been doing good. They've been working hard each and every day, each and every week, just getting better. You see the display they had this past Thursday. And I hope we just carry that momentum into this week."
