Hokie ClubCOLUMBIA, S.C. – Virginia Tech finished its stint at the Gamecock Shootout on Sunday at South Carolina. Two Hokies – Semra Aksu and Katie Andreini – posted 3-0 marks in singles play across three days of play.
On Friday, Aksu and Andreini both rallied after dropping their first sets to defeat their opponents from SMU. Laima Frosch also picked up a win, downing her SMU challenger in straight sets. In the doubles slate, Charlotte Cartledge and Ozlem Uslu teamed up for a win against a pair from Charlotte.
Moving onto Saturday, No. 39 Uslu and Cartledge were able to pick a pair of convincing straight-set victories in singles against the 49ers. Again, Andreini and Aksu battled to move to 2-0 on the weekend in singles, while Aksu and Erika Cheng picked up a doubles win.
Five Tech players grabbed singles win on Sunday, including four – Aksu, Cheng, Dariya Radulova and Cartledge – in straight sets.
