Tech's two early goals not enough versus Radford

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but a trio of goals from Radford led to a 3-2 defeat for the Hokies on Tuesday night.

Things started promising for Tech, which scored in the third minute on a bit of brilliant link-up play between Marco Vesterholm and Conor Pugh, which saw Pugh reciprocate a strong run by Vesterholm by feeding him a ball that the Danish transfer guided into the far post.

The Hokies' fortunes doubles in the 20th minute when Vesterholm whipped in a cross to Pugh, which the senior headed home.

Just five minutes later Radford answered with a header of its own from Owen Clark.

In the 33rd minute, the game was brought even courtesy of a right-footed strike by Jared Dubose, followed by a free kick goal in the 38th minute by Mateo Perez Nance.

The five goals between the two sides were the most in a first half this season during a Tech game. However, the scoring stopped there.

Virginia Tech posted seven shots – four on frame – in the second half, but never found an equalizer.

Tuesday night was Virginia Tech's senior night, during which Welnilton Da Silva Jr., Connor Jordan-Hyde, Mayola Kinyua, Mason McClendon and Conor Pugh were honored. All five earned starts for the game.Gallery: (10-24-2023) MSOC: Senior Night & Radford Match
