Andreini, Radulova make quarterfinal push at ITA Atlantic Regional Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova fell in the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships on Sunday, capping off a four-day run for the Hokies.

 
Along with her success in doubles, Andreini also made a push to the quarterfinals in singles play – falling on Sunday to No. 49 Sofiya Chekhlystova (Penn State), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. 
 
Of the six Hokies to compete in the singles main draw, Andreini progressed the furthest with straight set wins in the Round of 64 and Round of 32 over Allison Isaacs (Old Dominion) and Stella Wiesemann (George Washington). On Saturday, the Cary, N.C. native defeated Liberty's Marina Dabvtyan, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to be one of the final eight players remaining.
 
With Friday wins, Erika Cheng, Semra Aksu and Laima Frosch also appeared made it to the Round of 32. Cheng (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) and Aksu (4-6, 6-1, 6-0) both rallied after dropping first sets to their opponents, while Frosch progressed in straight sets. Freshman Frosch earned her spot in the main draw by picking up a pair of wins on Thursday in qualifying.
 
On the doubles front, Andreini and Radulova's run ended with an 8-6 defeat to 38th-ranked Cadar/Brumfield of Maryland. The duo, which recently competed at the ITA All-Americans in Cary, N.C., claimed an 8-1 win overMatushkina /Isaacs (Old Dominion), an 8-5 victory over Friedland/Dorner (Penn State) and an 8-0 triumph over Feodorov/Challa (Maryland) to reach the quarterfinals spot.
 
Aksu and Tamara Barad Itzhaki claimed an 8-4 win against George Mason's Al-Asadi/Wirt in the Round of 64, while Ozlem Uslu and Sabina Richtrova defeated Loyola (Md.)'s Shivkumar/Richiez, 8-3. Cheng and Charlotte Cartledge battled for an 8-7 (1) over Eissa/Hung of Maryland on Friday, as well.
