Hokies fall to No. 5 Louisville in four sets

BLACKSBURG --The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell Sunday as the Louisville Cardinals posted a four set (19-25, 26-24, 11-25, 19-25) victory at home at the Cassell Coliseum.

The loss dropped Virginia Tech's record to 12-9 overall and 2-8 in ACC action.

Sydney Petersen finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Hokies attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .391. 9 digs from Hailey Pearce led Virginia Tech defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hokies found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-19. Virginia Tech trailed by as many as six points as Louisville grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that was tied up three times before the Cardinals took over in the second half of the set.

SET 2 | Virginia Tech fought back after dropping the first set to take set two 26-24, tying the match at 1-1. The Hokies survived a back-and-forth set to win in a period that featured five lead changes and was tied 16 times. Neither team led by more than two points along the way. The Virginia Tech offense also got a boost from three aces in the frame.

SET 3 | Virginia Tech lost set three by a score of 25-11, putting the Hokies in a 2-1 hole. Virginia Tech trailed by as many as 14 points as Louisville grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Cardinals gained control of the lead.

SET 4 | Virginia Tech then lost the fourth set 25-19 to finish off the match. The Hokies dropped the set in spite of a solid performance on the attacking side. Virginia Tech put together a .310 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set loss.
