Hokies fall to Wake Forest in straight sets

WINSTON-SALEM, NC --The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in three sets (14-25, 16-25, 23-25) Wednesday on the road at Reynolds Gym.

The loss dropped Virginia Tech's record to 11-7 overall and 1-6 in ACC action.

Leandra Mangual-Duran finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Hokies attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .333. Virginia Tech got 7 digs from Iliana Rodriguez to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hokies found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-14. Virginia Tech trailed by as many as 11 points as Wake Forest grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up four times before the Demon Deacons took control.

SET 2 | Virginia Tech dropped set two 25-16, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Hokies fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.

SET 3 | The Hokies dropped the third set 25-23 and were swept by Wake Forest. Wake Forest grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 and fought off a late Virginia Tech rally in a set that was knotted up just once before the Demon Deacons took over in the second half of the period.
