JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech men's golf team tied for 11th with 27th-ranked Loyola Marymount at the 2023 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at Blackthorn Club at the Ridges (par 72, 7,118 yards).
The Hokies were led by fifth year standout Daniel Azallion, who turned in a 1-under 215 (68-74-73). This performance tied Azallion for 18th on the individual leaderboard – his second top 20 of the season.
As a team Tech used rounds of 290, 293 and 289 to total an 8-over 872. The tournament was tightly contested as only two strokes separated seventh place from 11th place. Tournament host ETSU, which is ranked 11th in the country entering the week, grabbed the title with a 27-under 837 (283-280-274). Charlotte placed second at 15-under 849 (283-283-283).
Eastern Tennessee's Mats Ege and Algot Kleen took the top two spots on the individual leaderboard. Ege shot a 16-under 200 (62-70-68) and Kleen fired an 11-under 205 (69-70-66). Charlotte's Conor Gough and Florida Gulf Coast's Joe Sullivan followed behind, shooting 5-under 211 to tie for third.
The Hokies' next event comes at the Steelwood Intercollegiate in Loxley, Ala. The two-day bout is Oct. 28-29 at Steelwood Country Club.
