RICHMOND, Va. – Following a successful senior season, middle blocker Anabel Zier has been named to the All-State team by the Virginia Sports Information Directors on Tuesday. This is the Blacksburg native's first All-State honor.
Leading the Hokie block, Zier had 101 total in 2023 with 88 block assists and 13 solo blocks. She averaged 1.03 blocks per set and only nine errors. Offensively, Zier had one of the best hitting percentages on the team with a .322. The senior recorded 146 kills, averaging 1.47 per set. She averaged 2.26 points per set and added 21 service aces.
Zier ended the 2023 season ranked ninth in the ACC in hitting percentage, as well as 15th in blocks per set. The middle blocker had a season-high 14 kills in the match against Virginia, adding a season-high 17.5 points. Her season high in blocks was eight in the win over Eastern Michigan.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
