BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's Cole Beck will wear the No. 25 jersey during the non-conference matchup against Purdue.
Beck will wear the iconic number for the first time in his career. The Blacksburg native is the first specialist selected to wear the No. 25 jersey in 2023. Listed as an athlete on the official roster, Beck brings tremendous speed as a returner. Competing in men's outdoor track and field this spring as a sprinter, he broke the school 100-meter record at NCAA East Regionals.
"I'm super excited to wear number 25 this week and carry the tradition on. I'm thankful for being selected to wear it." Beck said.
The senior athlete played in 9 games a season ago, averaging 20.4 yards per kickoff return. Beck also took snaps on special teams coverage units, recording his first career tackles at North Carolina.
Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey.
