BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with the local media Wednesday evening ahead of their non-conference matchup with Purdue. Head coach Brent Pry spoke first, followed by quarterbacks coach Tyler Bowen and transfer running back Bhayshul Tuten. Read below to find out what they had to say.
Head Coach Brent Pry
On building success from the opener:
"For me and our mindset, I think that game is history. That's why I say you have to build on the strengths and improve the weaknesses. It's not about what the score says or anything like that. It's who we need to be as a team, and we still got a lot of areas we got to keep getting better in."
Offensive Coordinator Tyler Bowen
On Grant Wells performance versus ODU:
"The things that you're always looking for, number one protecting the football. I thought he did a really good job of that. I thought there was some really good situations where he moved in the pocket really well, which obviously helps your protection. I think a lot of times protection gets looked at as just the offensive line and the quarterback, but it takes the entire group to be able to protect well."
Running Back Bhayshul Tuten
On taking pride in being a good pass blocker:
"I take a lot of pride in it. Whatever it takes to help the team win and pass blocking is one of those things. We had a tough time running the ball this past week, so we had to result to great pass blocking, great eyes, great play recognition and I think we did that overall. I'm in a boat where whatever helps the team win, I'm going to do it."
