SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Emma Pelkowski recorded her first career brace as the Virginia Tech women's soccer team dominated Syracuse 4-0 on Sunday at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Virginia Tech's record improves to 5-3-3 (2-1 ACC), while Syracuse drops to 2-8-1 (0-3 ACC).
"I am proud of today's results," said head coach Chugger Adair. "I think we had a wonderful mentality from the start. We were organized and aggressive which set the pace for the match. I am excited to see how we were able to post four goals and record another shutout.
"We are proud of the group and their ability to not give anything away to Syracuse and to keep the clean sheet."
How it Happened
Pelkowski wasted no time taking ownership of the match scoring her first goal of the season in the sixth minute. Pelkowski launched the ball 25-yards high right into the net just outside the goalkeeper's reach to give the Hokies a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Natalie Mitchell recorded her sixth goal of the season with a go around goal in the 26th minute, assisted by Pelkowski.
In the 45th minute, freshman Anna Weir shot the ball low right into the net recording her first career goal in ACC play. Virginia Tech headed into the locker room 3-0 at the half, with a 13-4 shot advantage over the Orange.
Pelkowski was left open by the Syracuse defenders allowing her to record her first career brace in the 48th minute of the match.
Tech would go on to win the match 4-0, with Alia Skinner recording her sixth shutout of the season.
