Hokies fall 3-1 to Miami

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team couldn't hang on after a first set victory, and fell in four sets (25-17, 21-25, 23-25, 11-25) to the Miami Hurricanes Sunday at home inside Cassell Coliseum.

The loss dropped Virginia Tech's record to 10-3 overall and 0-2 in ACC play.

The Hokies offense was paced by Elayna Duprey, who finished with 13 kills on the day, and by Leandra Mangual Duran, who had 10 while hitting .267. Defensively, two players reached double figures in digs as Iliana Rodriguez had 16 and Hanna Borer had 11.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hokies earned a set-one victory 25-17 helped by a strong performance on the attacking end. Virginia Tech registered a .324 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set victory. The Hokies ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.

SET 2 | Virginia Tech then lost set two 25-21, evening the match at a set apiece. Miami (FL) grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that was tied up three times before the Hurricanes took over in the second half of the set.

SET 3 | A set-three loss put Virginia Tech down 2-1. The Hokies fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-23.

SET 4 | Virginia Tech lost set four and the match, falling 25-11. The Hokies trailed by as many as 14 points as Miami (FL) grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 and Virginia Tech wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up four times before the Hurricanes took over.
