ELON, N.C. – Virginia Tech women's tennis wrapped up its weekend at the Elon Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
Katie Andreini paced the Hokies in Elon, claiming the Maroon Singles - A draw with wins on Friday and Sunday after Saturday's matches were postponed due to weather. Her run started with a three-set win over ECU's Ines Bachir, which saw her overcome dropping the first set to secure a 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-2 triumph. In the semifinals, Andreini topped ETSU's Fernanda Carvajal, 6-3, 6-3, setting her up for 6-4, 6-3 draw-winning match against Campbell's Mialy Ranaivo.
In doubles, Andreini teamed up with Semra Aksu to make a run at the Maroon Doubles draw crown, as the two finished runner-ups to ETSU's Carvajal/Rivera tandem with a 6-4 final. The pair of Hokies topped duos from Emory & Henry and ECU during their journey to the finals.
Aksu claimed a third-place finish in the Maroon Singles - B draw, rallying after dropping her first set to Campbell's Lily Chitambar for a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6) result in her final singles match on Sunday. In the Gold Singles - B draw, Sabina Richtrova finished fourth after claiming a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 win over UNC Greensboro's Juliana Craft. Freshman Samantha Tepes finished fifth in the Acorn Singles - B draw with a 6-4, 6-4 win over UNCG's Ella Olexa.
Richtrova and Charlotte Cartledge also made a push at a doubles draw title, as the two fell 7-5 to JMU's Broerman/Muteanu in the Gold Doubles draw. A pair of 8-3 wins over ECU's Zhou/Riveria and Elon's Sarikulaya/Bergeron led the duo to the final.
