BLACKSBURG – Noe Uwimana's spectacular strike in the 78th minute pushed Virginia Tech to a 1-0 win over Boston College on Friday night at Thompson Field.

In a game that lacked the finishing touches on solid build-up play, as Tech recorded only two shots on target and Boston College none, Uwimana's moment of brilliance that saw him rocket a right-footed shot into the top left corner was the lone breakthrough in the ACC fixture.

The first 75 minutes of Friday night's match went on primarily uninterrupted – with only four Boston College yellow cards being of note. With both team's back lines and midfields doing well with extinguishing any opportunities, only one shot on frame was recorded in the first half.

Virginia Tech had more success creating opportunities in the second half, out-shooting the visitors five to three. Coming off their first multi-goal game of the season last week against No. 5 Louisville, the Hokies hoped to carry their attacking momentum that had resulted in at least one goal in each game this season.

While Tech's attack searched for the goal that Uwimana eventually found, its defensive group put in a 90-minute effort to secure its first shutout of the season. Though he wasn't called into immediate action, Timi Adams recorded his first clean sheet of his career, while central defenders Theo Drennan, Grant Howard and Sergios Feneridis logged 90 minutes each.

The win marks Virginia Tech's fifth straight result, which includes a win and three draws at home to accompany the 2-1 victory over No. 5 Louisville last week. Mike Brizendine's group sits unbeaten through its first three ACC matches for the first time since 2013, as well.

Virginia Tech's attention now shifts to its first Tuesday match of the season, as it hosts High Point at 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Thompson Field.
