BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course winning both the men's 6k and women's 4k races on Friday.
The men's team scored all five runners within the top-10 as Arnav Tikhe lead the Hokies to victory scoring second with a time of 18:11.0. Viktor Idhammar scored third clocking in at 18:11.2. Following closely behind, Declan Rymer scored fifth with a time of 18:23.1, Trevor Mason scored sixth (18:33.1). Sam Hubert rounded out the team's score in eighth crossing the finish line at 18:40.1.
Tech women earned their first win of season as Lindsey Butler crossed the line first for the Hokies with a time of 14:19.3, scoring second. Ava Hassebrock scored fifth (14:26.3), followed by Hannah Ballowe scoring sixth (14.27.0), and Mary Kate McGranahan scoring seventh (14.30.9). Chase Kappeler completed the Hokies' first score of the season scoring ninth with a time of 14:52.4.
