BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with the local media on Tuesday to discuss its upcoming matchup with Marshall. Led by head coach Brent Pry at the podium, followed by cornerback Dorian Strong and quarterback Kyron Drones.
Read below to see what they had to say.
Head Coach Brent Pry
On playing complimentary football at Rutgers:
"Yeah, I think the biggest thing was for just a small portion there, we were sustaining drives and getting three outs on defense. We actually had some moments there where we were complimenting each other, and it allowed us to get back in the game. We have to do that more often."
On Drones' area of most improvement:
"I think understanding of the offense. I mean, again, we talked about, Mose Phillips and Jalen Jones and the limited experience. Kyron just started his first college football game, and he's just getting better and better all the time. And honestly, that's been the case with him since he's gotten here. You know, that was practice by practice. And I think, we're all looking, and he's looking to just be more consistent, better knowledge, fewer plays that you'd like to have back. But I think he's excited and we're excited for him."
Cornerback Dorian Strong
On the freshmen playing in-game:
"They've been ready when their number and name has been called. Which I'm happy and which I knew that they would be, just coming in from the spring and the summer and just seeing how the whole freshman class works. They're grinders. They know their roles and they know that anybody can go down at the snap of a play. So, they know that they have to be ready, which is what play calls, being up to speed. Like we can't baby them when they're in the game, so they know they got to be ready when they get put in the fire."
Quarterback Kyron Drones
On his current mindset:
"My mindset is just to keep doing what I've been doing. Obviously, it's been good enough for the coaches, and for them to believe in me. And then I'm just trying to give my team the best chance to win. So whatever I have to do to step up and do that, I will."
