PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Following their road game against Rutgers, Virginia Tech football met with the media. Head coach Brent Pry and defensive captain Josh Fuga spoke at the podium after the non-conference matchup.

Read below to see what they had to say.

Head Coach Brent Pry

On quarterback Kyron Drones' first start of the season:
"I would say inconsistent. But I think there's some really good things. You know, he made it hard to defend him. I think he had some nice balls today. He did a really nice job running the ball. He did miss a few reads that I think left some plays on the field. His decision-making was pretty good. First college start, I think there'll be a lot to build from. You know, so certainly some good things, but I think he would be the first to say a bunch of things we need to be better at."

On overcoming early mistakes:
"Yeah, that's what I told them, you know, it's just hurtful for everybody in that locker room. That you work so hard to claw back in it. You know, we just put ourselves just too much in a hole to overcome. We're just not that type of team. The margin of error for us is very small. We can't afford to make those kind of mistakes early in the game and then just bounce right back. You know, that's not going to happen often enough for sure. I'm encouraged by the positive things. There is good fight. Guys that stepped up and made plays. Quan Felton, Kyron, I think, Tuten. I mean, there's guys that are doing good things. We just got to put it together a little bit better."

Defensive tackle Josh Fuga

Closing statement:
"One quote I always lean on is from Yasmin Mogahed. She's an educator and a motivational speaker. She said, "Resilience is very different than being numb. Resilience means you experience, you feel, you fail, and you hurt. You fall, but you keep going." That's what this team is. This hurt, we're 1-2. It hurt, we fail. We failed at points in the game and we fall. But I'm gonna tell you this, you put that team on, we're going to keep going. That's a fact. We're gonna keep going. We're not gonna stop. And I'm trying to tell you, I'm gonna do my best to lead those guys and I'm gonna try my best to give it my all for this team, for this program, for LPD, for whatever you want to think about Virginia Tech. I'm gonna give it my all and I'm doing it for those guys that's in the locker room behind me."
