BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's Nasir Peoples will don the No. 25 jersey during the season opener versus Old Dominion.
Peoples will wear the iconic number for the second time in his career. The veteran safety was selected to wear the No. 25 jersey for the first time in 2022 at Pitt. He joins a list of 15 Hokies who have been two-time recipients of Coach Beamer's number.
"It feels special to wear it. Every time you get a chance to wear it, there's just excitement. It's a rich tradition, and just try to keep up with it as best as you can," Peoples said.
The Abington, Pennsylvania native started 10 games in 2022, ranking third on the team in tackles (60). Peoples recorded double-digit tackles twice last season, with 12 against ODU and 10 at Duke.
Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey.
