Hokies earn three-set sweep against Quinnipiac

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team completed a three-set sweep (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) of the Quinnipiac Bobcats Friday at home at Cassell Coliseum.

The non-conference win improved Virginia Tech's overall record to 2-0 on the season. It is the second time under Head Coach Marci Byers that the Hokies have started the season 2-0.

Sydney Petersen finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Hokies' attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .615. Tech got 10 digs from Iliana Rodriguez along with six blocks from Petersen and five rejections from Hailey Pearce to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hokies grabbed control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-17. Virginia Tech opened up its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. Virginia Tech also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set and got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Quinnipiac attacks in the frame.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Virginia Tech put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-17 victory in set number two. The Hokies scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Virginia Tech opened its biggest lead of the set, eight points, to close out the set. Virginia Tech's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Quinnipiac attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Virginia Tech then ended the match with a victory in set number three. The Hokies scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-17 victory. Virginia Tech ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. The Virginia Tech offense also got a boost from four aces in the final set. Virginia Tech's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Quinnipiac attacks.
