Mangual Duran leads attack with 10 kills in 3-0 victory against Morgan State

BLACKSBURG, VA --The Virginia Tech volleyball team put together a .400 attack percentage en route to a three-set victory (25-12, 25-19, 25-9) over the Morgan State Bears Friday at home at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies are now 9-0 in season openers since 2014.

Leandra Mangual Duran finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Hokies attack, registering a hitting percentage of .381. Tech got eight digs from Iliana Rodriguez to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hokies took set one 25-12 powered by a solid showing on the attacking side. Virginia Tech registered a .500 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set victory. The Hokies ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the win.

SET 2 | Virginia Tech continued to roll after a set-one win by securing a 25-19 victory in set number two. The Hokies led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. Virginia Tech opened up as much as a seven point lead at 23-16 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills in the set. The Hokies hit .385 over the course of the set.

SET 3 | Virginia Tech then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Hokies took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-9 victory. Virginia Tech ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 16 points, to finish off the set. The Virginia Tech offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

Virginia Tech continues the Hokie Invitational at 7 p.m. on Friday, taking on Quinnipiac in Cassell Coliseum.
