BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with local media for the third time during fall camp on Wednesday. Defensive recruiting coordinator Derek Jones, linebacker Jaden Keller and running back Malachi Thomas spoke at the media availability following practice. Read what they had to say below.
Cornerbacks coach Derek Jones
On cornerback that have improved most during fall camp:
"Well, I think the top three that I have: Dorian Strong, Mansoor Delane and Derrick Canteen, have all made significant improvements since the spring. They're doing a really good job of showing the young guys, what it takes to excel at this thing. Whether they're getting beat or winning, you know, moving on to the next play mentality. Cornerback is such a mental position and I think each one of those guys right now at this point of camp, are guys that I can point to rather we're in the film room or out here on the practice field and say that's what I expect."
Linebacker Jaden Keller
On the energy during team periods:
"Our players love team periods. We love competing every day. We love rather its skill, inside run, team periods, we love competing every day. Just getting better every day. That's just the motto right now."
Running back Malachi Thomas
On teammate Bhayshul Tuten:
"First, he brings a lot of brotherhood. We all get along with him together and it's just fun to hang out with him and talk to him. On the field, he's a very explosive guy. He has that factor of being able to make big plays and able to get first downs when you need them. He's very dependable."
