Jaylin Lane named to Paul Hornung Award watch list

BLACKSBURG - The Louisville Sports Commission announced Tuesday the preseason watch list for the 2023 Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, and Virginia Tech's Jaylin Lane was honored on the list for the second straight year. The Paul Hornung Award is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) to the most versatile player in college football.

Lane (5-10, 180) tallied 69 receptions for 940 yards and five touchdowns last season at Middle Tennessee State. He led the team with four 100-yard receiving games and has 1,528 career receiving yards.

The Clover, South Carolina, product is a former All-Conference player as both a wide receiver and a punt returner. Entering his senior season, Lane has 457 punt return yards over the past three seasons.

During the 2021 season, he was named a Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American as a punt returner when he ranked second nationally in punt return average (11.5) and 26th nationally in combined kick return yards (580).

Now in its 14th season, the Paul Hornung Award is given annually in memory of the late football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The 2023 Paul Hornung Award winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner in downtown Louisville in March 2024.

Tech opened fall camp Wednesday, the first of 15 practices in the preseason, and is slated to begin its season against Old Dominion on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can now purchase single-game tickets and choose their preferred seat locations for the season opener.
