BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech's Daniel Azallion has been named to the 2022-23 VaSID (Virginia Sports Information Directors) Men's Golf University Division All-State second team, as announced by the organization Monday afternoon. Azallion earns VaSID recognition for the second straight season after making the first team a year ago.
Recording a team-best 72.14 scoring average, Azallion registered five top-20 performances on the season. His season-best showing came at the Furman Intercollegiate where he tied for third at 7-under 206 (69-68-69). He charted 13 par-or-better rounds as a senior.
Virginia's Ben James was named both the VaSID Men's Golfer of the Year and VaSID Men's Golf Rookie of the Year. UVA's Bowen Sargent was named the VaSID Men's Golf Coach of the Year for the seventh time in his coaching career (also in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2017). James burst onto the collegiate golf scene during the 2022-23 season and was named the Phil Mickelson Most Outstanding Freshman Golfer this season by the GCAA. He was a finalist for both the Haskins Award and Division I Jack Nicklaus Award which are presented to the nation's top collegiate golfer.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
