Julia Fixsen named USTFCCCA Women's Field Athlete of the Year

Regional Awards

NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Julia Fixsen, of Virginia Tech track and field, was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year, announced the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday, June 15.

"Julia is very deserving of this award," said assistant coach Bob Phillips. "She worked incredibly hard to get back from the foot injury that affected the end of her indoor season. The NCAA championships were her first outdoor meet back at a full approach run and she did a great job of handling it."

Fixsen won the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas clearing a height of 4.45m (14' 7.25") on her first attempt. Fixsen recorded a clean sheet through 4.45m before ending her day with three attempts at 4.50m (14' 9.0"). She became Tech's first outdoor pole vault national champion, second overall to Rachel Baxter winning the 2022 Indoor Championships (4.62m (15' 1.75")).

Fixsen earned her third career USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors finishing first at the Outdoor Championships. She also won her first ACC Outdoor Championships clearing the bar at 4.38m (14' 4.5").
