BLACKSBURG – Head coach Marci Byers announced the 2023 Virginia Tech volleyball schedule on Wednesday, which features 14 home matches in Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies begin the 2023 campaign at West Virginia, taking on the Mountaineers in an exhibition on Friday, August 18 at 5 p.m. A week later, Tech opens up the season at Cassell Coliseum, hosting the Hokie Invitational and taking on Morgan State, Quinnipiac and Furman from August 25 – 26.
Tech then hits the road for two straight weekends, playing in tournaments hosted by Toledo and Lehigh, with matches against Memphis, Youngstown State in Toledo, as well as a matchup with Delaware State and Fairleigh Dickinson in Bethlehem, Pa.
The final nonconference weekend for the Hokies will be in Cassell on September 15 and 16. The Hokies will welcome Queens, East Carolina and Duquesne for the Virginia Tech Classic. Tech will play Queens on Friday at 6 p.m. and then either ECU or Duquesne on Saturday, depending on the results of the Friday matches.
ACC play will begin at home for the Hokies, as Florida State and Miami come to town. The matchup with the Seminoles will be on Friday, September 22 at 6 p.m., followed by the Hurricanes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Following a home match against Georgia Tech on Friday, September 29, the Hokies will go on the road beginning with an October 1 match at Clemson. Tech will face Syracuse, Boston College, Wake Forest and NC State on the road as well.
Other road ACC matches include Pitt, Virginia, North Carolina and Duke. Included in the nine home conference matches for Tech is Notre Dame, Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest, Clemson and Virginia.
The Hokies close the 2023 regular season with the Commonwealth Clash in Cassell Coliseum, hosting the Cavaliers at 1 p.m.
Tech returns several key contributors from the 2022 squad, including starters Hanna Borer, Cara Lewis and Sydney Petersen. Borer was a two-time ACC Freshman of the Week honoree, leading the team in assists. A middle blocker, Lewis had 106 blocks on the year and Petersen added 179 kills with 2.50 points per set.
