AUSTIN, TEXAS – Virginia Tech men's tennis player Ryan Fishback was named a first team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators on Wednesday.
Fishback, who capped off his junior season with a 12-15 record, came in at No. 42 in the final ITA men's tennis singles standings this week.
Holding down Court No. 1 for Tech all season, the Geneva, N.Y. native earned five ranked wins, including triumphs over No. 5 and No. 12 ranked opponents. For his efforts, Fishback earned second team All-ACC honors and appearances in the NCAA singles and doubles championships.
In the classroom, Fishback boasts a 4.0 GPA, while studying Biochemistry. In the spring semester, Fishback was named the recipient of the Skelton Award, the highest honor a Virginia Tech student-athlete can garner. At the NCAA Championships in May, Fishback claimed the Elite 90 award for the second time in his career, recognizing the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
