 WHAT'S AT STAKE

  • Virginia Tech is eager to bounce back from its April 11 loss to Liberty when the Hokies came up on the wrong side of the teams' 7-3 outcome at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park. Tech slid within a run of the Flames at 3-2 during the bottom of the fifth inning, despite the visitors rallying for four runs on five hits during the top of the seventh inning, sealing the result.
  • Last season, Virginia Tech swept its home-and-home series with Liberty, earning the 10-6 victory in Lynchburg (April 12) and walking the Flames off, 2-1, in Blacksburg (May 11). Lucas Donlon provided the home fireworks for Tech during the latter's bottom of the ninth inning, providing the game-winning RBI single that scored Eduardo Malinowski with two outs.
  • The Hokies lead the all-time series against the Flames, 42-30, though have won only four of the last 11 series meetings (since 2015).
  • As of Tuesday, Virginia Tech ranks No. 51 in the NCAA Division I Baseball RPI with its strength of schedule ranking at No. 57. After playing Liberty (RPI No. 70) on Wednesday, the Hokies will finish the regular season with games against Clemson (RPI No. 13), James Madison (RPI No. 97) and Wake Forest (RPI No. 2).
