Virginia Tech, Bowling Green finale declared no contest

BLACKSBURG – Sunday's series finale between the Virginia Tech baseball team and Bowling Green was canceled due to inclement weather and declared a no contest with the Hokies and the Falcons scoreless during the top of the first inning at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park. The game will not be rescheduled.

Per NCAA rules, game statistics from Sunday's affair will not count towards official recordkeeping.

Initially scheduled for 1:02 p.m., first pitch of Sunday's finale was delayed due to inclement weather by one hour and 29 minutes. Beginning at 2:31 p.m., Virginia Tech (28-16) and Bowling Green (16-27) navigated through six minutes of official game time before weather procedures forced both teams back into a delay, from which the game was officially canceled.

Freshman right-hander Griffin Stieg delivered 14 pitches within the game's six-minute window, building a 1-2 count against catcher Kyle Gurney before the game was ultimately called. DJ Newman had opened the inning with a three-base double into right field while Sam Seidel had battled Stieg to a full count, drawing the walk that left the Falcons lying runners at the corners.

On Saturday, Virginia Tech outscored Bowling Green, 25-2, during the teams' non-conference doubleheader. Fourth-year outfielder Carson Jones combined to bat 7-for-9 for the Hokies with two doubles and two home runs (four RBIs), leading them to their 13-2 and 12-0 victories.
