BLACKSBURG – Heading into its final non-conference weekend of the regular season, the Virginia Tech baseball team (26-16, 11-12 ACC) will roll its way into a two-day home series against Bowling Green (16-25, 9-15 MAC) as the two sides prepare to meet for three games at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park (May 6-7).
 
Saturday's doubleheader between the Hokies and the Falcons will feature start times at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. while Sunday's series finale is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. All three games will air live on ACC Network Extra.
 
Fans may also listen to all three games as called by the voice of Tech baseball, Evan Hughes, on the Virginia Tech Sports Network.

 WHAT'S AT STAKE

  • Through games completed on May 4, Virginia Tech ranks No. 52 in the NCAA Division I Baseball RPI with its strength of schedule ranked at No. 55. The Hokies are 8-9 this season against the RPI top 50 with six such games remaining against Clemson (RPI No. 12) and Wake Forest (RPI No. 1).
  • Considering D1Baseball's Week 12 NCAA projections for the 64-team NCAA tournament field, Virginia Tech was ranked No. 68 overall among the outlet's Last Five Out.
  • Since the beginning of April, Tech has compiled an 11-6 record, earning three ACC series wins and a two-game split against the ACC Coastal Division leader, Duke.
  • As of May 4, Virginia Tech (11-12 ACC) controls the ninth best record in the ACC and is clear of the 12-team ACC Baseball Championship cutoff by two games, leading the two 12th-place teams: Georgia Tech (8-13 ACC) and NC State (8-13 ACC). On Thursday, the Wolfpack dropped their series opener at Notre Dame, 9-7, while Georgia Tech is scheduled to begin a three-game home series against Pitt on Friday.

 

TECH IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

  • Virginia Tech won its lone prior meeting against Bowling Green on March 11, 1998, in Fresno, California. The Hokies prevailed, 13-9.
  • Tech has won 11 consecutive regular season weekend series against non-conference opponents (excludes non-conference tournaments and/or round robins), dating back to its March 2019 weekend series loss to Bryant at English Field.
  • Since the beginning of the 2020 season, Virginia Tech has posted a 52-7 record against non-conference opposition, including regular season and postseason games.
