HOKIES AT THE ACC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Virginia Tech is making its seventh all-time appearance at the ACC Baseball Championship, including its third consecutive berth since 2021. The Hokies are 6-7 all-time during tournament history.
  • Tech last advanced out of the pool play during the 2013 season when the Hokies championed Division B with three wins against second-seeded Florida State, third-seeded Virginia and seventh-seeded Georgia Tech, earning a spot in the championship game against North Carolina. The 2013 event was held at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, where the Hokies have posted a 3-2 record during tournament play.
  • Last year, Virginia Tech earned the No. 1 seed at the 2022 ACC Baseball Championship after winning the 2022 ACC Coastal Division title – the program's first such crown. The Hokies thumped 12th-seeded Clemson, 18-6, in Pool A to earn head coach John Szefc his first career postseason win at Tech.
  • Virginia Tech is 3-0 all-time during postseason play against Boston College and Clemson. The Hokies defeated BC, 2-1, during the 2002 BIG EAST tournament and have knocked off the Tigers in 2010 (9-8) and 2022 (18-6) at the ACC Baseball Championship.

HAMMERIN' HEADLINES

  • Virginia Tech has achieved its second consecutive 30-win season under the leadership of John Szefc, who has now guided 12 teams during his career to the 30-win plateau. The Hokies' 75 combined wins spanning the 2022 and 2023 seasons are the most the program has laid claim to during back-to-back years since the 1999 and 2000 campaigns (76).
  • Tech enters the 2023 ACC Baseball Championship ranked No. 43 in the NCAA Division I Baseball RPI. The Hokies are 19-19 against the RPI top 100 this season and have five RPI top-25 wins on their résumé.
  • Tech's strength of schedule ranks No. 30 nationally, having jumped considerably after Saturday's 14-6 victory at No. 1 Wake Forest.
  • Sophomore second baseman Christian Martin carries a 36-game reached base streak into the postseason. Martin has reached base during all but two of his 47 appearances this year.
  • Virginia Tech witnessed four student-athletes earn year-end, all-conference praise from the ACC during Monday's presentation of the league's postseason awards. Jack Hurley earned his second consecutive All-ACC First Team selection, Carson DeMartini placed onto the All-ACC Third Team while rookies Brody Donay and Garrett Michel both earned ACC All-Freshman Team nods.
