ATHENS, Ga. -- Junior Emma Ritter hit a home run and added three RBI for the Virginia Tech Hokies in an 8-3 loss to the No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.
Ritter's home run set a new program record for team home runs in season, as the Hokies have now hit 98 on the year.
Sophomore Emma Lemley (21-11) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (38-19). She went 4.2 innings, giving up six hits, striking out four. Molly Jacobson came on in relief to throw the remainder of the game, giving up one run on one hit.
Offensively, the Hokies were paced by Ritter, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Junior Addy Greene also added a double and sophomore Bre Peck chipped in for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Virginia Tech plated two runs when Ritter left the yard with junior Cameron Fagan aboard.
The Bulldogs battled back, putting up four runs in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI double and a three-run home run. Two home runs in the fifth added three more to Georgia's tally, bringing the lead to 8-3. Greene came across to score the final run for Virginia Tech in the sixth, bringing the final score to 8-3.

» Junior Madison Kerpics led the Bulldogs pitching staff, earning the win and throwing five innings of two-run ball.
The Hokies will now play the winner of Boston U. and North Carolina Central at 6 p.m. on ACC Network
