No. 23/22 Virginia Tech falls to No. 1 seed Florida State 9-1 in ACC Championship semifinals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The No. 22 Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the No. 1 seed Florida State Seminoles 9-1 in six innings on Friday in the ACC Championship semifinals. The Seminoles will now advance to the Championship game on Friday.

Freshman Lyndsey Grein (9-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (37-18). She pitched 1.2 innings, giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits. Molly Jacobson came on to throw the final 3.2, giving up three runs on five hits.

At the plate, the Hokies were led by junior Addy Greene, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI in the fourth.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Offensively, Florida State put runs up in the first, second and sixth innings to take the win. Kalei Harding led the way for the Seminoles with two hits, including a home run and four RBI. Seven different Seminoles added a hit, including Kaley Mudge, Jahni Kerr and Mack Leonard adding an extra base hit. Kathryn Sandercock (22-3) earned the win in the circle. 

GAME NOTES

» Virginia Tech pitchers faced 31 Florida State hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out two.
» Greene led the Hokies at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
» Florida State was led offensively by junior Kalei Harding, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI.
» Sandercock led the Seminoles pitching staff, throwing six innings of one-run ball.

The Hokies will now await their postseason fate, looking towards the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday. The show is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
