LYNCHBURG, Va. --Freshman Garrett Michel racked up five RBIs to help power the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Liberty Flames 14-1 on Wednesday.

Senior Jonah Hurney (3-1) got the win for Virginia Tech (29-16). The southpaw went 2.1 shutout innings, giving up one hit. Freshman Andrew Sentlinger also pitched well, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.

Michel went 2-for-4 with a home run in addition to his five RBIs for the Hokies. Freshman Brody Donay compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and four RBI. Junior Jack Hurley also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Virginia Tech plated two runs when Hurley left the yard with junior Carson Jones aboard.

The Hokies then held the Flames scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning.
