Ritter racks up 4 hits in No. 13/17 Virginia Tech's 10-2 victory against Longwood

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Junior Emma Ritter racked up four hits to help lead the No. 13 Virginia Tech Hokies over the Longwood Lancers 10-2 in six innings on Tuesday.

Freshman Lyndsey Grein (7-3) got the win for Virginia Tech (28-8). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.

In addition to her four hits, Ritter had three doubles and four RBI to lead the Hokies. Ritter's three doubles ties the single-game Virginia Tech record. Junior Cameron Fagan put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Sophomore Rachel Castine also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the first inning. Virginia Tech scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Ritter.

The Lancers then narrowed the lead to 3-2 until the Hokies expanded their advantage in the second. The Virginia Tech offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Fagan, which brought the Hokies lead to 8-2.

Virginia Tech kept Longwood scoreless before building their lead to 9-2 in the fourth inning. The Hokies scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Castine.

The Hokies notched the game-winning run on Ritter's RBI double in the sixth, bringing the score to 10-2 in favor of Virginia Tech for the run-rule win.
