No. 13/17 Hokies set for Commonwealth Clash

Game Notes

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 13/17 Virginia Tech softball team is set for the Commonwealth Clash, traveling to Charlottesville to take on Virginia in a three-game series beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ACCNX.

LAST TIME OUT
 
The Hokies defeated Longwood in a doubleheader on Tuesday, taking down the Lancers 10-2 (6) and 11-1 (5). Tech scored 21 runs over the course of the two games, racking up 25 hits, including three home runs on the day. Emma Ritter and Cameron Fagan led the way for the Hokies offense. Cameron Fagan had two home runs, one in each game, ending her day with 4 RBI. Ritter had six RBI on the day with a home run and three doubles, tying a single-game record. Lyndsey Grein and Molly Jacobson each earned a win in the circle, with Grein getting the win in game one, striking out five and giving up five hits. Jacobson received the win in game two giving up only four hits and striking out two on the day.
 
ZOOMIN'
 
The Hokies stole eight bases between the two games against Longwood, with six in game two which is a season-high. On the season, Tech has 39 stolen bases as Emma Ritter is a perfect 14-for-14 and Kelsey Brown is 10-for-10. Brown was also back in the mix against Longwood, recording four hits, two of which on a bunt. The senior also scored five runs in her two games played.
 
COMMONWEALTH CLASH
 
Smithfield, the presenting sponsor of the Commonwealth Clash, enters its second year sponsoring the friendly, statewide rivalry between Virginia Tech and Virginia. With 22 individual event points on the line, the school that accumulates 11.5 or more points is crowned the winner and takes home the Commonwealth Clash trophy. More information.
