Torres named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

Opens in a new window ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech goalie Jocelyn Torres was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, per a league release. The freshman earned the recognition following her efforts in cage during Tech's 14-13 triple overtime win over No. 20 Duke on April 1.

Torres became the first Hokies lacrosse player to be named the league's defensive player of the week since Meagh Graham earned the honor on April 24, 2018. Furthermore, the Glenwood, Md. native became the second freshman goalie at Virginia Tech to log a win against a ranked team, joining Carrie Hall (April 13, 2003 vs. No. 20 Northwestern).

Making eight saves, including one in overtime, Torres played an integral role in Tech's dramatic win over the Blue Devils on Saturday.

Saturday's outing wasn't Torres' first impressive game of the season against a ranked opponent, however. The freshman is averaging 10.5 saves per game against ranked opponents, including 15 saves against then-No. 1 North Carolina and No. 12 Notre Dame.

Virginia Tech will be back in action at home on Saturday against Louisville at noon.
