BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 21/24 Virginia Tech softball team secured the series with a 3-1 game two win over the Clemson Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Lyndsey Grein (8-3) got the win for Virginia Tech (35-16, 14-9). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. This is the freshman's first win over a Top-25 opponent.
At the plate, the Hokies were paced by Fagan, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Junior Emma Ritter had a solid day at the plate with a single and an RBI. Seniors Kelsey Bennett and Morgan Overaitis also helped out for the Hokies, each adding an RBI to the tally.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Tech put three runs on the board, one on an RBI squeeze bunt from Morgan Overaitis, as well as two RBI singles from Ritter and Bennett. That was all the Hokies needed as Clemson only put one run on the board off a home run from Jadeyn Ruszkowski in the top of the fifth. Grein and the defense would hold the Tigers scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The Hokies and Tigers will finish out the series tomorrow at 2 p.m., a new start time due to weather in the Blacksburg area on Sunday.
