Marshall takes 2-1 win over No. 21/24 Hokies

HUNTINGTON, W.Va -- The No 21/24 Virginia Tech softball team fell to Marshall 2-1 Tuesday afternoon. A two-run home run would be the difference-maker to lead the Thundering Herd over the Hokies.

Lemley (19-10) went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits and walking one for Virginia Tech (33-16). She struck out nine over her six innings over work.

Freshman Kylie Aldridge led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A two-run home run from Autumn Owens in the first inning gave Marshall the lead. The Hokies were trailing 2-0 heading into the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Aldridge put Virginia Tech on the board with a leadoff home run off senior Sydney Nester. The Hokies were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
