Four Hokies earn ACC honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Olivia Vergano garnered All-ACC second team honors on Tuesday, as announced by the league. Rookies Sarah Gresham, Ella Rishko and Jocelyn Torres were named the league's All-Freshman team, as well.

Four student-athletes earning ACC recognition ties the program best, equaling four first team and second team selections in 2018.

Vergano led the Hokies in scoring and points with 49 goals and 13 assists. In Tech's final regular season game against Virginia, the West Babylon, N.Y. native surpassed 100 career points. Last season, Vergano earned All-Freshman honors.

Gresham leads Tech in draw controls with 104, which is a single-season program record. Starting all 18 games so far for the Hokies, the Long Valley, N.J. native set the freshman record when she surpassed 73 against Louisville.

Rishko sits behind Vergano in goals scored with 42 in her first year at Tech. On two occasions against ACC opponents – Louisville and Pitt – Rishko had seven-goal performances. Against Pitt on April 23, the Rehoboth Beach, Del. native tied the ACC Tournament single-game scoring record.

Torres, like Gresham, started all 18 games for the Hokies as a freshman. In her time protecting the cage, the Glenwood, Md. native boasted the ACC's fourth-best saves-per-game number at 7.67. In two of her first four collegiate games, Torres had impressive showings against two of the nation's top teams, restricting then-No. 1 North Carolina and then-No. 12 JMU to a combined 18 goals.

With three freshman on the All-ACC Freshman Team, Virginia Tech tied the league's best mark for total players to earn the recognition in one season.
