No. 18/22 Hokies travel to Marshall for midweek tilt

BLACKSBURG – The No. 18/22 Hokies hit the road on Tuesday, making the trip to Huntington to take on Marshall in a midweek matchup. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Hokies fell in all three games against No. 5 Florida State this past weekend, 4-1 in game one, 6-3 in game two and 16-7 in game three. In game one, The Hokies had bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with two outs but were unable to complete the comeback. Cameron Fagan's three-hit day led the Hokies offensively, going 3-for-4 with three singles. The Hokies took a 3-2 lead to the top of the seventh inning in game two but could not hold on, falling 6-3. Fagan the way offensively again for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and an RBI. In the game three loss, Emma Ritter and Jayme Bailey both tallied a home run, with Bre Peck going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI.
 
JAYME BAILEY HOMECOMING
 
Senior Jayme Bailey returns to her home state this week as the Hokies travel to Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall in a midweek. Bailey is from Scott Depot, W.Va., which is approximately 40 minutes from Huntington, and went to Hurricane High School. While at Hurricane, Bailey was a four-time WVSSAC AAA state champion and a four-time First-Team All-State selection.
 
RBI RACE
 
The Hokie RBI race continues, as Jayme Bailey recorded three RBI over the weekend against FSU to retake the lead with 39. Three other Hokies have over 30 RBI with Emma Ritter and Bre Peck each with 38 and Cameron Fagan adding 33. Tech continues to launch the long ball, now with 86 on the season so far to lead the NCAA. The Hokies added two more over the weekend, as Jayme Bailey and Emma Ritter each hit their 12th home run of the season, coming against Florida State.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies will play their final ACC series of the season at home, hosting Clemson from April 28-30. Following Sunday's game against the Tigers, the Hokies will celebrate its 2023 graduating class.
