No. 5 Florida State takes game two win over No. 18/22 Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 18 Virginia Tech Hokies took a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 6-3 to the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles Friday on Friday in game two.

Sophomore Emma Lemley (19-8) took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (33-14, 12-8). She threw an inning for the Hokies, giving up four runs, three earned, on two hits.  Freshman Lyndsey Grein started the ballgame and went six innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on eight hits, walking two and striking out three.

Junior Cameron Fagan led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and an RBI. Senior Kelsey Brown also tallied two hits, going 2-for-4. Sophomore Bre Peck also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Virginia Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Tech got on the board thanks to Fagan's RBI double to score Brown.

The Seminoles then tied the ballgame at one on a single from Josie Muffley before the Hokies came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. Freshman Kylie Aldridge came across to score the lone run of the inning for Virginia Tech off a sacrifice fly from Addy Greene, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Hokies.

Florida State fought back to tie the ballgame at two before Virginia Tech reclaimed a 3-2 advantage in the fifth inning, scoring on a fielder's choice. Tech would take the 3-2 lead to the seventh, but the Seminoles scored four runs in the top half to secure the win and the series.

GAME NOTES
» The Hokies drew five walks from Florida State pitching.
» Fagan led the Hokies at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
» Florida State was led offensively by junior Kalei Harding, who went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
» Freshman Makenna Reid led the Seminoles pitching staff, throwing 4.2 innings of one-run ball and earning the win.

The Hokies and Seminoles close out the series on Saturday at 4 p.m.
