No. 12/16 Virginia Tech takes 5-1 setback to Duke in game two

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies took a 5-1 setback in game one of the day against the No. 13 Duke Blue Devils.

Freshman Lyndsey Grein (6-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (26-8, 8-3). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Molly Jacobson also pitched a third of an inning as well, giving up four runs on four hits.

In the batter's box, the Hokies were paced by senior Meredith Slaw, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Slaw put Virginia Tech on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Jala Wright. The Hokies were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the game.

GAME NOTES

» Slaw led the Hokies at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a home run and an RBI.
» Duke was led offensively by sophomore Ana Gold, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI.
» Wright led the Blue Devils pitching staff, throwing the complete game win.
