Pledge Per K

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Three different Hokies hit home runs to help lead the No. 18 Virginia Tech Hokies over the Radford Highlanders 12-1 on Tuesday in five innings.

Sophomore Molly Jacobson (6-2) got the win out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (33-12). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out two. Sophomore Emma Lemley also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three. Freshman Lyndsey Grein made the start in the circle, pitching two innings and giving up two hits and one run.

Cameron Fagan's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-2 day, and included a double, a home run, a walk and three RBI. Peck made her contribution with a double, a home run and an RBI, part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Junior Emma Ritter also helped out for the Hokies, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a grand slam on the way to five RBI, a new career-high for the junior.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies were trailing 1-0 in the first inning after Radford put up a solo home run, when they first put runs on the board. Virginia Tech's offense came out and put up six runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Ritter and a two-run double from senior Kelsey Bennett.

The Highlanders failed to push any runs across before the Hokies offense got back to scoring the next inning. Virginia Tech scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Ritter, which brought the score to 7-1 in favor of the Hokies.

Virginia Tech held Radford scoreless before expanding their lead to 11-1 the following inning. The Hokies then scored four runs in the bottom of the third, including a three-run home run off the bat of Fagan.

Tech then pushed across a run on Peck's leadoff homer in the bottom of the fourth off freshman Natalie Jones, bringing the Virginia Tech advantage to 12-1. The score remained 12-1 for the rest of the game, as Lemley and the defense closed out the win.
