SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Senior Kelsey Brown totaled three hits, but the No. 14 Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6-1 Friday.
Sophomore Emma Lemley (19-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (31-11, 11-5). She went the complete seven innings, striking out seven and giving up 11 hits.
Brown's three-hit day led the Hokies offensively. Sophomore Rachel Castine had the Hokies RBI on the day, going 1-for-2 with an RBI triple in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Virginia Tech plated a run off senior Payton Tidd when Castine tripled in senior Jayme Bailey. The Hokies were unable to get any closer, as Notre Dame added four runs to their tally on the way to a 6-1 final. Notre Dame capitalized on two home runs, both of them two-run shots. A pair of singles brought in the other two runs for the Fighting Irish.

The Hokies close out the series with Notre Dame on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a game on the ACC Network at 5 p.m.
