Grant Basile signs pro deal with Bertram Derthona

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech forward Grant Basile has signed a professional contract with Bertram Derthona in Tortona, Italy, opting to forgo his final year of college eligibility. The agreement runs through June 2026.

A native of Pewaukee, Wis., Basile recently gained Italian citizenship. He plans to arrive in Italy this weekend and begin training with the team immediately.

Bertram Derthona is currently third in Series A Unipolsai with a record of 17-8 through its first 25 games.

Basile, an All-ACC honorable mention selection, led the Hokies in scoring at 16.4 points per game, which ranked seventh among ACC players. He racked up 354 points during conference play – third-most in the league. The 6-foot-9 forward scored double figures in 29 of Tech's 34 games, 10 times going over the 20-point plateau. He connected on 66 3-pointers, nearly doubling the tally from his last season at Wright State.

With the departure of Basile, the Hokies now have at least one open scholarship for the 2023-24 season. Hunter Cattoor, who has the option to return for his fifth year, has yet to announce his decision.
