No. 14/17 Hokies travel to Notre Dame for ACC series

Game Notes

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 14/17 Virginia Tech softball team continues ACC play this weekend, making the trip to Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish in a three-game series beginning on Friday. Games one and three will be on ACCNX, with Saturday's game two on ACC Network.

LAST TIME OUT
 
Virginia Tech fell to Tennessee 11-0 in five innings in a midweek on Tuesday. Emma Lemley took the loss for the Hokies, who move to 31-10 on the season. The Hokies went 2-1 over the weekend against Virginia, winning game one 9-8 in eight innings, followed by a 6-5 loss in eight innings in game two. Tech took the series with a 7-0 game three win. Along with Kelsey Brown leading the Hokies with a .714 average and 10 hits, Kelsey Bennett hit .625 with two home runs, three RBI and a 1.500 slugging percentage. Jayme Bailey also added a grand slam and five RBI over the weekend.
 
ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
 
Kelsey Brown was named the Co-ACC Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. The senior earned the award for the first time in her career after leading the Hokies at the plate last week. The outfielder hit .700 as the leadoff hitter with 14 hits in 20 at bats. She also added two doubles, an RBI and nine runs scored with an .800 slugging percentage. She is also leading the team with a .455 batting average this season and is a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen bases.
 
TOUGHEST TO STRIKEOUT
 
Emma Ritter is ranked first in the ACC and third nationally as the toughest to strikeout. She has only three strikeouts in 28 at bats, recording a .391 batting average with 50 hits, including 10 doubles, two triples and three 10 home runs, adding 31 RBI. Ritter is building off of the 2022 season, in which she struck out only six times in 165 at bats.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies return home next week, hosting Radford at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by an ACC series with Florida State, beginning on Thursday in Blacksburg.
