The ACC announced its All-Academic Team Thursday afternoon which featured six Hokies: Georgia Amoore, Taylor Geiman, Cayla King, Elizabeth Kitley, Taylor Soule, and Kayana Traylor.
Amoore, a junior enrolled in sociology, earns the honor for the third time. This season, Amoore started all 36 games for the Hokies and was named MVP of the 2023 ACC Tournament as well as the Most Outstanding Player of the Seattle 3 Regional. The Aussie set a program record with 116 3's made, the second-most in the country behind Caitlin Clark's 140. She was a First Team All-ACC selection and garnered AP All-America honorable mention honors.
Geiman, a senior studying biomedical engineering earned All-Academic for the first time. She played in 31 games her senior season, a career-high. She knocked down crucial 3's in home wins vs. Louisville, FSU, NC State, and South Dakota State in the NCAA Tournament. The Hanover, Pennsylvania naive played a season-high 18 minutes in the home win over UVA.
King, a senior studying human nutrition, food, and exercise and earned All-Academic for the third time. King started in all 36 games for the Hokies and posted 12 games in double figures and made five or more 3's five times. The North Caroline native holds the record for 3FG's in a game with nine, which she did in the season-opener.
Kitley repeated as ACC Player of the Year after another dominant season where she was one of three athletes in the nation to average 18 points and 10.5 rebounds. She recorded 23 double-doubles and scored 20+ 18 times throughout the season, with her season-high of 29 coming in the final regular season game vs. Georgia Tech. During her senior season she became Tech's all-time leader in points, field goals, blocks and double-doubles while also eclipsing 1,000 rebounds and 2,000 career points. She is the only VT athlete to be named First Team All-ACC three times, All-Defensive twice and earn AP All-American recognition twice. In addition, she has been an All-Academic selection all four years.
Soule studies instructional technology as a graduate student and earned the recognition for the second time. She started all 36 games en route to an ACC title and the program's first Final Four appearance. She contributed 10.9 points per game as well as 5.6 rebounds. Soule recorded three double-doubles and also scored 20+ three times. During the 22-23 season she made six 3-point field goals, doubling her tally from her first four seasons of college basketball. She was named Second Team All-ACC and to the ACC's All-Tournament Second Team. Soule was an integral part of the Hokies' postseason run and was drafted No. 28 in the WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx.
Kayana Traylor is a senior studying criminology and this is her second time being named All-Academic. Traylor started 29 of 35 games played and averaged 11.0 points per game. She scored in double figures 17 times and 20+ three times, punctuated by a 25-point effort at UVA as the Hokies swept the Hoos for the second year running. Traylor was drafted 23rd overall by the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Draft.
