DURHAM, N.C. --Sophomore Drue Hackenberg was mowing people down on Sunday, fanning 11 Duke hitters over eight innings of work to help lead the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Blue Devils 5-2.
In addition to his 11 strikeouts, Hackenberg (2-4) threw eight innings, giving up one run on two hits and walking two for Virginia Tech (18-11, 5-9).
Sophomore Carson DeMartini led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Junior Carson Jones put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-5 with a double and a triple. Senior Chris Cannizzaro also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Virginia Tech with a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Virginia Tech got an RBI single from freshman Garrett Michel, scoring DeMartini from third base.
